P.L.A.C.E. Multicultural Festival - Oct. 2


P.L.A.C.E. Children's Museum and Creative Arts Center will be holding its 4th Annual Multicultural Festival at Hamden Town Center park on Saturday, Oct. 2, from 10-4. Activities will include multicultural performances, art projects, a moonbounce, costume characters, food and more. Music, dance, art, play and fun for all ages. Admission is free. Rain location is Hamden Middle School.
And don't forgot, the Miller Library will be open 10-5:30 on Saturday, so don't forget to stop by after you've visted the festival!

All Things Victorian














The Victorian Lady, Kandie Carle, will visit on Monday, September 27, 7:30 pm to 8:30 pm in the Senior Center Social Hall. In honor of her visit, we have put together a display of books on Victorian topics.

Open Yale Courses

Open Yale Courses provides free access to a courses taught by distinguished scholars of Yale University. Courseare offered in a number of disciplines, including humanities, social sciences, and physical and biological sciences.


Each course includes a syllabus, class lectures in video, audio-only formats or print transcipts, and suggested readings.

And don't forget that you can still check out Great Courses right here at the Hamden Library. We have dozens of course lectures from The Teaching Company available in audio and video formats.

Man Booker Prize Shortlist

The Man Booker Prize for Fiction is a leading literary British award. On September 7, 2010 a shortlist of six authors was announced from a longlist of 13 authors. The winner of the 2010 Man Booker Prize for Fiction will be announced on Tuesday, October 12. The selections for the shortlist 2010 are:

Australian author Peter Carey for Parrot and Olivier in America (Faber and Faber)

Irish author Emma Donoghue for Room (Picador - Pan Macmillan)

South African author Damon Galgut for In a Strange Room (Atlantic Books - Grove Atlantic)

Top 100 Thrillers
















The audience of National Public Radio recently voted for the Top 100 Killer Thrillers.
600 novels were nominated, more than 17,000 ballots cast.

The book "Thrillers: 100 Must Reads" by David Morrell & Hank Wagner
has also suggestions. It was published in 2010.
